A Winter White And Midnight Black Outfit : Over 40 Style

Winter has well and truly arrived here in the UK with temperatures recently plummeting and making me reach for my newest winter wardrobe addition, a long length wool blend coat.
I focused this outfit around a monochrome theme. We all love classic black and white and it's a style which will never go out of fashion. But this is the softer 'winter white' version rather than stark brilliant white, much softer on my skin-tone and (slightly) more practical, because let's face it...a light coloured coat is a dirt magnet. I've banned myself from eating and drinking in this coat!
As part of my 'more considered purchasing' regime I'm buying less, but aiming for better quality. Hence this coat is a wool blend, so much warmer than a purely man made material. I've seen much talk about buying more expensive items as part of the considered purchasing process but I disagree, getting the best item for my money is always a priority for me and that doesn't always mean spending more. I'm looking more for good quality fabrics and cut and both can be found on the high street, whether that means pre-loved or new, I'll be shopping around from both.
This coat from Topshop is a wool blend fabric, mid calf length, lined and is a simple overcoat style with no belt, perfect for wearing over chunky knits. I've teamed it here with a cream roll neck jumper, faux leather leggings and sock boots. I wanted the black aspects of the outfit to be the darkest midnight black to contrast with the winter white, so chose leather leggings as they tend to look darker than black denim.
I've also been styling this coat in more casual outfits, it looks great with a hoodie, mom jeans and white trainers and I plan on wearing it over the festive season over party outfits...long gone are the days I can brave a winter night out without a big coat! Let me know if you're the same?
